NewAir AI-100SS 28-Pound Portable Ice Maker, Stainless Steel
NewAir aI-100ss ice maker
The ice maker in our fridge is SMALL. With family living close, we were always running out of ice quickly. This meant a trip just for ice. When we had family & friends we needed 2 coolers just to hold ice! I read so many reviews on several different ice makers & decided to try this particular one. Wow! This thing is absolutely GREAT. Took it out of the box, plugged it in, ran 3 cycles of vinegar water, then just plain water to remove the plastic smell. Then, let it run. It has run almost 24 hrs a day since the day after arrival & puts out ice like crazy. In fact, we have extra ice in the freezer now, & have not run out of ice the NewAir makes & no need to use the extra ice we had bagged from it. At first it seems like a large footprint on the counter, but I would not give it up for the small area it takes from the counter. If I need the counter space for holidays, I would simply put it on a small wood "tv tray style" table. No one is taking my ice maker! One of the best, most...
Great Unit!
We have owned this unit for about 2 months now and it performs as described. The fit and finish are all above average and we are very happy not having to deal with "trays" of water in the main freezer especially with an eight year old that loves ICE! He can grab his glass easily and fill with nice mini cubes to his hearts content.
Recently we had an extended power outage where all the ice cubes melted. Nice feature about this unit is that the reserve water well is below the cube hopper, so when the cubes melt, the water is 'recycled' back into the well. Power came back on and it reused the melted ice water to make more cubes automagically! Solid 4 stars.
A real champ
I too researched quite a bit before deciding on this guy. It's just great. We had a party recently and it actually kept up with about several of us that were using ice. It delivers a load in about 6 minutes. The basket's pretty small (around 4 old-fashion glasses) but we dumped the ice in an ice bucket and it worked well. For the two of us, it keeps up with all the ice we want.
When first turned on, the "cubes" were small. They got bigger after the second dump. They're actually like little shot glasses. They hold up well in a cocktail. There was no plastic taste at all. Watch where the side blower blows. It gets pretty warn.
I realize most of the moving parts are plastic and I've read some reviews that say they break. However, as of right now (about 2 weeks of using it every day), I'm very satisfied.
UPDATE ONE YEAR LATER!
We've had our unit for a year now. It's still running daily and doing a great job. I have an alarm set on my phone to...
